If you have a little one who loves tigers and enjoys reading The Tiger Who Came to Tea, why not throw them a themed party? Whether it’s for a birthday or to make the most of a play date with their friends, a tiger tea party complete with games is a great way to keep youngsters entertained. Here are six party game ideas that are guaranteed to ensure they have a roarsome time.
Pin the tail on the tiger
This classic party game is easily adapted to any theme. Pop up a picture of a tiger and give each child a stripy tail marked with their name. Pop a blindfold on them, spin them round three times and guide them to the picture. They can then attach their tail to the picture - the child that gets their tail closest to the correct position for a tiger tail wins!
Tiger treasure hunt
Tigers are renowned stealth hunters, hiding among trees, grasses and mangroves as they stalk their prey. Before the children arrive, hide paper tigers around the house or garden. When they’re all gathered together, send them off to see if they can find all the tigers.
Musical tigers
Musical statues is another game that can be adapted to suit your tiger theme. Let the kids dance to their favourite songs, and when the music stops, get them to throw a tiger pose. The last one to get into character is out until you have a winner.
Teacup relay
When the tiger comes to Sophie’s house, he drinks all the water in the taps. In this game, you’ll need to get the kids into two teams, each with a teacup and an empty bucket, which represents their tiger. The teams then have to run to a bucket filled with water, fill up their teacup and bring it back to their team’s tiger bucket without spilling any. The team whose tiger has ‘drunk’ the most water at the end of the race wins.
Face cookie game
The tiger notoriously eats all the food - including all the cakes and biscuits - when he comes to tea. For this game, each child has a cookie that they must place on their forehead. The aim is to move it to their mouth without using their hands. Get the kids to sit or stand on a clean floor when they do this, as there are bound to be lots of dropped cookies!
Sleeping tigers
Give the children a chance to digest their tea party snacks by playing sleeping tigers. Adapted from the classic game, sleeping lions, the children lay down and pretend to be sleeping tigers - but they mustn’t move a muscle! Meanwhile, you can walk around trying to make them laugh. The last child still ‘sleeping’ is the winner.
